Day 1
1) Introduce Goals – 2 minutes
2) Class activity: Collaborative Brainstorming with the Class – 8 minutes
(One of us acts as scribe on laptop – e-mails to class later on)


  • What are the components to a good paper/piece of writing?

3) Group Activity: Group discussions in individual groups – 10 minutes
  • Groups discuss homework
  • Choose one representative to participate in the group discussion
  • This person will answer the following questions and share the GROUP'S answer to the class.
    • THEME: What five themes were chosen? What are the relevance of each of these themes to the story?
    • WRITING STYLE: What make this author's writing style unique from others writing styles? Why does the author decide to write this story as he does?
    • QUOTES: In writing, why use quotes? What is the importance of understanding the quotes used?
    • COMICS: Why the use of comics in the story? What do the comics help deliver the reader that the dialogue alone cannot?


4) Class Activity: Discuss the importance of each of the topics - 5 mins

  • Have each group share the importance of their topic (each get 2 minutes)

5) Explain Homework (10 mins)

DAY 2
1) Group Activity: Discuss homework with your group members from yesterday. (15 mins)
  • Same groups as yesterday
  • Share homework and then pick best one to share with class
  • Give some suggestions/peer edit

2) Class Activity: Share the best one from each group with the class (15 mins)

3) Group Activity: Go back into groups and revise! (10 - 15 mins)
