DAY 2 HOMEWORK - DUE 2/24/12
QUOTES(20 pts)

CREATIVE PIECE - 1 page minimum
By looking at important events and quotes that come from these events, create a short creative piece using one of the following alternatives.

Episode
1. Choose an existing episode and expand on it

  • Example: Continue the talk between Junior and his basketball coach when Junior was in the hospital. From the quotes in the book, what can you infer they talked about?
2. Write a new episode that could possibly fit into the story
  • Example: Talk about the first time Junior and Rowdy meet and how they became friends. Using what you know about the two boys' personalities through quotes make your own story. Be creative!

Character
1. Take an existing character and explain their actions in a scene

  • Example: Roger seemed to respect Junior after he was punched in the face. Using quotes about Roger's words and behavior create your own version of the story from Roger's POV.
2. Create a new character and add their thoughts about an existing scene or write another scene through their point of view (that could be added to the book)
  • Example: Create another Indian kid living on the reservation who is friends with Junior. Using what you know about how Junior was being treated in the story (via quotes), use this new boy/girl to explain his/her thoughts on Juniors actions and maybe even how his family or school feels about this change.

ANALYSIS
Write a paragraph explaining how you used quotes from the original novel to infer what you were able to write in your creative piece.
In the novel there are 'key/lines' spread throughout the novel. Choose one of your own quotes (from your creative piece) that you consider could be a 'key line'. Explain why this quote from your writing is relevant to the character(s) in your story or the original novel.
