DAY 2 HOMEWORK - Due 2/24/12
THEME (20 pts)

CREATIVE PIECE - 1 page minimum
By focusing on the theme you chose, create a short creative piece continuing with that theme via one of the following alternatives.

Episode
1. Choose an existing episode and expand on it

  • Example: Expand on the story of Junior throwing his geometry book at Mr. P. We do not see this passage in the book so write it in! How did your theme connect to this passage? Make sure that you are able to analyze your creative piece and find key parts where your theme is showing.
2. Write a new episode that could possibly fit into the story
  • Example: Write the story of Mr. P first coming/deciding to come to the reservation. Make your theme play a role in your short story. How do Mr. P's actions (whether conscious or not) connect to your theme?

Character
1. Take an existing character and explain their actions in a scene

  • Example: Write a story about why Mary runs away to Montanna. You don't really know the true reasons behind her actions so add them in! How does her running away connect to your theme?
2. Create a new character and add their thoughts about an existing scene or write another scene through their point of view (that could be added to the book)
  • Example: Write a story from your theme's POV! If you are doing hope you can have "The Angel of Hope" hovering over a scene from the book, like when Junior decides to go to Reardan, and use this angel to state hope's opinion on Junior's decision. Will this "angel" follow him throughout the book?

ANALYSIS
Write a paragraph explaining how you closely connected the reoccurring theme you chose to your creative piece. In your creative piece in what specific areas did your theme play a role? Choose one quote from your story that shows your theme.
